India: Corona death toll rises, more international aid arrives

The death toll from the corona virus in India has risen to record levels, while more international aid has arrived to treat patients.

At least 3,689 people were killed Sunday, the highest number of deaths in a single day, according to AFP. While 4 lakh new cases of Corona victims have come to light.

After the United States, Britain and Russia, relief supplies have arrived from France, including eight oxygen generator plants and 28 ventilators. The vanity letter sent by Germany had also reached India yesterday.

Oxygen generators, face masks and vaccine doses have been sent from the United States, Britain and Russia.

In Brazil and Canada, too, the severity of the global epidemic is once again on the rise following the rise in corona cases. Corona has infected more than 3 million people worldwide so far.

India has also started vaccinating all the youth from Saturday, but most states are facing shortage of vaccines.

Germany's ambassador to India says people are sometimes dying in front of hospitals or in their cars due to lack of oxygen.

Germany has donated 120 ventilators to India which arrived on Saturday.

There are long lines of people outside vaccination centers who are desperate to get vaccinated.

Even on social media platforms, a large number of users are seen appealing for oxygen cylinders, medicines or beds, which are causing severe hardship to the citizens.

The capital Delhi is one of the worst affected areas in the country where the lockdown has been extended for another week.

Dr. Anthony Fauchi, the US government's adviser on the global epidemic, said on Saturday that India would have to impose a nationwide lockdown to cope with the Corona wave.

Several countries have banned flights to India, while Nigeria on Sunday also banned passengers from India from entering the country.

Sri Lanka, one of the South Asian countries, also saw a record increase in the number of victims on Saturday.

Sri Lanka's epidemiologist Siddhartha Samaraweera says Sri Lanka could soon face a situation similar to India's if the current outbreak is not controlled.
