70% of corona cases in Pakistan are of British type | PKNNTV

According to an organization that studies coronavirus in Pakistan, "70% of the epidemic cases in the country are new types of coronavirus discovered in the UK for the first time.

According to the British news agency Reuters, Pakistan has announced a strict lockdown next week on the occasion of the religious holiday Eid holidays, including the closure of public transport to prevent the coronavirus.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry, Director, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at Karachi University, said: It was only two percent.

The ICCBS works on samples of Corona cases and provides research and data to the government.

The British strain of the virus, also known as the B17 strain, was discovered in the UK last year and is thought to be more rapidly transmitted to the body than the previously prevalent coronavirus.

However, Prof Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry said, "It remains to be seen whether this strain is more deadly than the previous virus."

He also said that the type of virus found in neighboring India, which has been on the rise in recent weeks, has not yet been confirmed in Pakistan, but the reason is that in the country There were no kits to identify the type of virus called B1617.

According to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry, "Kits have been ordered to identify this type of virus which will soon reach the country."

"It is more likely that the Indian virus has already reached Pakistan because migrants from both countries live in close contact with each other in the Gulf states," he said.

In recent weeks, there have been more than 100 daily deaths from the coronavirus in Pakistan. Officials fear that if the outbreak of new strains of the coronavirus increases the number of cases, the country's health system will not be able to bear the burden it has in India.

According to government officials, a total of 854,240 cases of coronavirus have been registered in Pakistan so far while 18,797 deaths have been reported. There are between 4,000 and 5,000 new cases in the country every day.

It should be noted that in a country with a population of 220 million, only 40,000 corona tests are performed daily.

Pakistan has recently stepped up its vaccination campaign and so far about 3.3 million people have been vaccinated.

On Saturday, the first consignment of 1.2 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine was delivered to Pakistan under the Kovacs quota.
