Antihypertensive
drugs are classified as below, all of them are used for elevated blood pressure
and cause to reduce it but they have different mechanisms of action. Here these
drugs are simply mentioned without any pharmacological details.
1. Beta Blockers:
β-1 Selective: Metaprolol, Atenolol, Acebutalol, Bismolol, Bataxolol, Esmolol.
Non-selective
(β -1, β-2):
Without
ISA: Proponolol,
Sotalol, Timolo
With ISA: Pindolol
With α-blocking agonist: Lebetolol, Canidilol
2. Angiotensin Converting Enzymes Inhibitors (ACE Inhibitors):
Benapril,
Captopril, Enalapril, Foxinopril, Moexipril, Quinapril, Ramipril
3. Angiotensin
Receptor Blockers (ARBs):
Candesartan,
Ibersartan, Losartan, Temisartan, Valsartan.
4. Diuretics:
Thiazoides:
Hydrochlorothiazoide, Indapamide, Chlorthalidone.
Loop
Diuretics: Forsemide (Lasix), Torsemide, Bumetamide.
Potassium
sparing diuretics: Spinorolectone, Epleronone.
5. Calcium
Channel blockers:
Amlodipine,
Nimidifine, Nifidifine (Adaalat CC), Verapamil, Nisoldipine.Nicardipine.
6. Direct
Arterial Vasodilators:
Hydralazine,
Monoxidil, Nitrates, Nitroprosside.
7. Anti-platelet
agents:
Aspirin,
Clopidogril
8. Drugs used in
hypertensive emergency:
Sodium
nitoprosside, Intravenous Labetalol, Diazaoxide, Trimethaphan cmsylate,
Hydralazine, Nitroglycerin, Phentolamine.
Note: Garlic
has vasodilator property while Ginger, Parsley and Coriander has diuretic properties, so these
natural supplements can also be used instead of medications.
